Stephanie Meadow got her 2017 LPGA tour season under way last night at the Pure Silk Bahamas LPGA Classic.

Currently ranked 258th in the world, Stephanie is hoping for a fast start to her 2017 season at the Her tour ranking of 148 [full field events are 144 players] should ensure she gets plenty of starts this season and a big focus this year will be improvement and consistency from her limited starts.
“I would like to be in the position where I make it into the Asian swing [at the start of October],” she said.
“That’s top 60 on the money list and a realistic goal if I get to play in 17/18 events”.
“I am a lot more confident now and if I get on a roll, you just never know. In the future, I obviously want to be higher than that but lets start small and keep on improving.”

Meadow was certainly consistent as she carded an opening one-under-par 72 that included four birdies and three bogeys which left her tied in 50th place after the first round in the Bahamas.

That left the Irish Olympian eight shots adrift of Brittany Lincicome as the two time major champion kicked off her 2017 season by setting a new tournament scoring record with a nine-under par 64 at Ocean Club Golf Course to take the outright lead. Lincicome sits two-strokes ahead of Stacy Lewis, P.K. Kongkraphan and Megan Khang.

“I was making everything. 30-footers, 10-footers, five-footers. It was a pretty easy day,” Lincicome said after her round. “I was driving it well, hitting it well, putting well and making everything. It was one of those days where it’s like wow, is it too good to be true for it to keep going for three more days?”

Her bogey-free round of 64 also tied the course record and the round is the lowest by Lincicome since the 2011 ShopRite LPGA Classic when she also carded a 64.

Hopefully Meadow can build on her steady start and climb the leader board in tonight’s second round.
