Karl McCormack finished best of the Irish after the second and final round of the Toro Tour’s San Roque in Andalusia.
After opening with a five-over 77 on the San Roque Old Course, McCormack followed up with a four-over 76 on the New Course, which sees the Portarlington man finish the event tied for 20th overall, and T11 in the professional ranks.
Birdies on the opening two holes brought McCormack back to +3, but he’d bogey four of the remaining seven holes on the front nine to drop back to +2 for his round as he made the turn. Three bogeys on the back nine were offset by a solitary birdie and he’d finish up on nine over par.
Douglas’ Sean Reddy, who started the day as the best placed of the Irish quartet on four-over, couldn’t continue the solid play that had seen him finish the opening round tied for eight in the Amateur Class and T17 overall. Despite an early birdie, he struggled thereafter and finished the tournament on +17, five strokes ahead of fellow amateur from Letterkenny, Jamie Foley.
Ronan Collins of Fota Island improved on his round one showing, moving up three places to finish the week tied for 45th.
England’s Harvey Byers was the runaway victor, backing up his opening five-under 67 with a second-round 69 to post -8, seven strokes clear of Fraser Moore of Scotland, and they were the only two players in the field to break par for the 36 holes.
