Áine Donegan made a big move in the Moon Golf Invitational as she helped her college LSU into a seemingly unassailable nine-shot lead heading into the final round.
Donegan recovered from a difficult start to shoot a three-under 69 to take her to -3 through 36 holes.
The Lahinch woman who also holds membership at Dromoland Castle opened with a par before a bogey, birdie, double bogey run left her with work to do but she bounced back with birdies on 5 and 8 to wrestle back some momentum heading into the back nine.
Birdies on 11, 13 and 16 capped a superb fightback as she moved into a share of 20th place, seven adrift of teammate Carla Tejedo Mulet in the individual standings.
The leading Irishwoman in the individual standings is Anna Foster of Auburn who carded a level-par 72 to remain on five-under and in a tie for eighth position.
The Elm Park golfer started well with two birdies in her opening seven holes but was unable to get anything going after that, dropping shots on 9 and 15.
Auburn lie in second place and have their work cut out to chase down LSU.
Miami’s Sara Byrne is level-par after a one-over 72 while Louisville’s Mairead Martin is back on plus five after a 74.
