It’s hard to believe that is has now been five years since Callaway released its first-generation Apex iron. The Apex line of clubs had previously had a long-standing heritage under the Ben Hogan brand that Callaway had bought years previous.
When launched in 2014, Callaway Apex irons were promoted to combine the beauty of a forged iron with the benefits of a distance-oriented face construction. There was also a Pro version.
Fast forward to 2016, Callaway updated both Apex models adding Cup Face technology to the standard Apex, making it one of the fastest irons on the market. The 2016 Apex Pro also integrated tungsten into the forged carbon steel body to optimize CG throughout the set and both sets were hugely popular.
Three years on, Callaway have announced the third generation 2019 Apex irons.
Dr. Alan Hocknell, Head of Research and Development, Callaway Golf, commented “With Apex products we are giving avid golfers the best of everything in a package that looks absolutely stunning. To be able to offer golfers a ‘without compromise’ mix of forgiveness, distance, premium feel and sound, coupled to great looks, is something we are very proud of.”
Apex 19
Apex 19 Irons are a classic forged distance iron. Blending the finest craftsmanship with a tungsten-infused multi-piece construction to precision place the CG for optimum ball flight and control, Apex 19 offers premium forged sound and feel with long, consistent distance and playability.
With a body frame constructed from soft, forged 1025 mild carbon steel, Callaway has further enhanced the already exceptional feel of Apex by adding Urethane Microspheres to each head – a first for a forged iron – to further dampen face vibration.
Then a 360 Face Cup delivers effortless power and features new Spin Control Variable Face Thickness Technology. This delivers consistent distance from centre and off-centre hits by managing ball spin throughout the set.
Presented in a compact head shape to appeal to more accomplished golfers, and completed with a beautiful platinum chrome finish married to premium components, Apex 19 is Callaway finest forged distance iron to date.
Apex 19 will be available on January 25th in a Chrome or Smoke finish for €1499 (Graphite) / €1399 (Steel) in chrome finish or €1699 (Graphite) / €1599 (Steel)
Apex Pro 19
Apex Pro 19 Irons, are the company’s first forged tour performance distance iron for better players featuring Face Cup Technology.
More accomplished players can now enjoy advanced distance-enhancing technologies for fast ball speeds on centre and off-centre strikes in a Tour influenced, compact forged head.
While maintaining a look and feel desired by the best golfers in the world, including Callaway’s team of Staff Professionals, the new Apex Pro Irons feature strategically-placed internal tungsten weight pockets throughout the set that precisely locate the CG to optimise ball flight.
New Spin Control VFT (Variable Face Thickness) technology within the Face Cup also ensures desired and consistent spin throughout the set, meaning better distance control into the greens.
To also take sound and feel to the next level, the forged 1025 mild carbon steel body benefits from Callaway’s proprietary Urethane Microspheres engineered in the head, amplifying an extremely soft feel at impact.
Visually, from a golfer’s eye view, players will see a head that benefits from a straighter leading edge, a higher toe and thin top line, whilst smoothly transitioning into a compact hosel.
Apex Pro 19 will be available on January 25th in a Chrome or Smoke finish for €1499 (Graphite) / €1399 (Steel) in chrome finish or €1699 (Graphite) / €1599 (Steel)
Callaway is also introduced a custom-order-only Apex Combo set that blends both Iron sets together, Apex 19 3-iron through 7-iron, and Apex Pro, 8-AW.
