On the May Bank Holiday weekend, Abbeyleix Golf Club will hold a Golf For Health Open competition, a first of its kind in Ireland.

The initiative will be the first time any golf club in Ireland provides a medical check-up of golfers by a registered GP and RN’s before players take to the golf course.

While there is an increased awareness of Atrial Fibrillation brought about by radio and TV advertising, Abbeyleix objective is to identify Arrhythmia and stroke symptoms before CPR, Defibrillators or emergency treatment is required.

This will be the inaugural event of a three year project.

There are several reliable sources with proven statistics of the increase in sudden deaths on sports fields across all sports sectors. The figures relate to all ages with an increase in SDS among 18-34 year olds and most persons, especially those active in sports, never even know they have the symptoms that, when detected, can potentially save their life.

The project will certainly save lives over the next three years.

For further details please visit www.abbeyleixgolfclub.ie and follow the Strokesaver and GFH Link.

Join all those at Abbeyleix on the May Bank Holiday weekend and play for top prizes. Entry fee and medical check is only €30 which means it is cheaper than free.

You can get a new full membership until December 2023, have a medical check-up and enter the May Bank Holiday competition for €480!
