Patrick Keeling saw his hopes of winning the Murcia Amateur fade after a three-over 75 saw him drop out of the lead and fall seven shots back heading into the final round.
The Roganstown starlet is in third place on two-under while Norway’s Sondre Kravik holds a six shot lead over home favourite Kosta Horno Mateo on nine-under.
Keeling held the overnight lead after two eagles gave him a sublime 67 and he started round two well with two birdies in his first four holes.
A bogey on seven was followed by a double on the eighth before things began to unravel for the teenager.
Keeling who has a Toro Tour win this winter dropped four shots in his next six holes to drop back to level-par for the championship but he showed his powers of recovery with a brace of closing birdies to remain just about in touch.
Powerscourt’s David Shiel is in fourth place on one-under after a one-over 75 while Padraig O’Dochartaigh holds ninth place on two-over after a 74.
Successive rounds of 78 have Paraic Connolly in 25th on plus twelve.
Only four players broke par on day two with just half that shooting under-par including Kravik who soared to the top with a 67.
