Roganstown starlet Patrick Keeling leads the Murcia Amateur Championship after a blistering five-under 67.
Keeling leads Daniel Martinez Regal by the minimum as he looks to make it double trouble for the Keeling’s after his brother Sean captured a European Pro Golf Tour title during the week.
The teenager who already won on the Toro Tour towards the end of 2022 carded two eagles including a closing three on the par-5 18th to edge his nose in front.
The Dubliner opened his campaign with three straight pars before his first eagle of the day arrived on the par-5 4th. He followed that with a dropped shot on five but got it back on the ninth to turn in 34.
A birdie on ten made it back-to-back gains before a third birdie of the day came on 16. A bogey on 17 was followed by a stunning closing eagle to propel him into the lead.
Powerscourt’s David Shiel is also in the mix on two-under in fifth place. Shiel birdied two of his last three holes to burst from the pack and into contention with an opening 70.
Toro Tour regular of late Padraig O’Dochartaigh is not out of the reckoning in 12th on two-over after a 74. Paraic Connolly is back on six-over in 22nd place.
