Robert Moran moved to within four shots of the lead at the halfway stage of the Australian Master of the Amateurs after a three-under 69 in blustery conditions.
The Castle golfer lies in a share of sixth place on four-under-par with Japan’s Taichiro Ideriha leading the way on eight-under.
Moran, who is part of the provisional 19-man Great Britain and Ireland Walker Cup panel, carded five birdies and a brace of bogeys in his second round with one of the dropped shots coming on the par-5 fourth hole.
The 23-year-old posted birdies on the third, seventh and eight holes to recover from that blemish and turn in 34.
After a run of six successive pars, Moran birdied 15 and 17 before letting one go on the 18th.
Performances abroad will prove crucial for Walker Cup selection in September and Moran has an early opportunity to put himself on the radar over the next 36 holes.
Overnight leader John Gough is two shots back on six-under after a second round 74.
