Lost in the news frenzy surrounding Tiger Woods’ return to competition early next month is confirmation Shane Lowry will join the 15-time major champ in the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas.

It had been rumoured for a few months that Lowry may be extended one of three invitations remaining into the elite 20-player field taking place from December 1st to 4th event again at the Albany Golf Club in the Bahamas.

However, tournament officials indicated Lowry will now take the place of the injured Will Zalatoris, and that freed up an invitation for Kevin Kisner to compete in the elite 20-player event, with Woods confirming also England’s Tommy Fleetwood would compete in a tweet the American sporting superstar posted late yesterday (WED).

It will be Lowry’s first appearance in the US$3.5 event that Woods has hosted since 2000, and that Woods has won on five occasions, the last being in 2011.

As the tournament host, Woods was at last year’s event in what was his first public appearance since a near fatal car accident earlier in February but for obvious reasons he did not tee-up.

His appearance next month in the Bahamas will be a first since the emotional scenes on the Old Course at St. Andrews when he missed the halfway cut at the 150th Open Championship.
