Roganstown’s Sean Keeling won the Ulster U-18 Boys’ Open in dramatic circumstances as he added to the Connacht title he won earlier this year.
The youngster who led regional Open Championship qualifying in Baltray birdied his final hole in Ballyliffin, to finish on three-under, one clear of Grange’s Ciaran Murphy.
This year’s event was cut to two days and 36 holes, due to strong winds on Wednesday which forced a suspension of play with scores reset for Thursday morning.
Keeling started the day two shots clear of the field after an excellent bogey-free 66 on the opening day, but he shot a 75 on Friday to win by the smallest of margins.
Murphy was four back going into the final 18 holes, but an excellent birdie-birdie finish saw him sign for a 72, in the joint-best round of the day.
The Grange golfer set the target at -2, and the competition looked set for a play-off before Keeling’s excellent birdie on 18 saw him win.
It was a second win of the year for Keeling, after he previously came out on top at the Connacht Under-18 Boys’ Open in Galway GC.
Leinster Boys champion Thomas Abom (Edmondstown) and Luke Cunningham (Galway Bay) finished in a tie for third on +1.
