Ian Poulter has slammed the Swedish Golf Federation for cutting ties with former Major winner Henrik Stenson.
Poulter moved in to bat for his fellow LIV Golf convert on Twitter, taking umbrage with the SGF’s decision to cease its partnership with the Swede who turned his back on Ryder Cup captaincy earlier this year for a mega Saudi payday.
“We believe that Henrik, given his involvement with LIV Golf, can no longer act as a role model for Swedish junior golfers,” said Gunnar Hakansson, SGF’s secretary general.
However, Poulter hopes the SGF ultimately regrets the move, urging those who have experienced Stenson’s mentorship to speak up on behalf of the Swede.
“Beyond disappointing to hear this news,” Poulter wrote.
“I actually hope the Juniors/Disability golfers have their say. I hope you regret this SGF.

Stenson has since commented on Instagram and although he regretfully accepts the SGF’s decision, he won’t back down from his commitment to junior and paragolf.
“Naturally, we are disappointed that the SGF feel that our commitment and financial support via the Henrik Stenson Foundation is no longer wanted,” wrote Stenson.
“But this will in no way impact our drive to develop junior and paragolf in Sweden.”
