Paul McGinley finished as the leading Irishman at the Staysure PGA Seniors Championship in Formby as Adison Da Silva eased to a six-shot victory.

McGinley carded a one-under 71 to finish the week on one-over and in a share of 21st place.

There have been plenty of birdies all week for McGinley who carded seventeen – two less than Da Silva but his cards were also littered with mistakes.

The 2014 Ryder Cup captain burst out of the traps with three birdies in seven holes after gains on the third, fifth and seventh holes.

A bogey on the ninth was cancelled out by a birdie on the par-3 10th.

Three bogeys in five holes scuppered his round but he did birdie the 14th as he came home in 36.

Headfort professional Brendan McGovern shot a one-over 73 to finish on plus three in a round that included three birdies and two double-bogey sixes.

Mark McNulty finished on four-over after a level-par 72.

Brazil’s Da Silva shot a two-under 70 to complete a wire-to-wire victory on eighteen-under-par.

Teeing off with a seven shot advantage, the Brazilian was level for the day after 16 but landed two closing birdies to cruise to the title in style.
