Despite a thumping win for Lauren Walsh and Caley McGinty in the Saturday fourballs, USA extended their advantage heading into the singles at the 42nd Curtis Cup.

The hosts will take an 8.5-3.5 lead into Sunday at Merrion after they won the Saturday fourballs 2-1 and halved the foursomes 1.5-1.5.

Walsh and McGinty stole the show for Great Britain and Ireland running out 5&4 winners over Rachel Kuehn and Jensen Castle.

During the four-ball match Walsh of Castlewarden reeled off four birdies on the bounce to give the visitors a much needed boost in the top match.

Redemption for the 3&2 loss the day before.

Walsh and McGinty were sent out in the top match of the afternoon foursomes and they came away with a half point from their match with Rachel Heck and world number one Rose Zhang.

GB&I face a seemingly unassailable task heading into the Sunday singles.
