Seamus Power’s hopes of securing a PGA Tour card for next season remain very much intact despite a disappointing finish at the DAP Championship, the penultimate event of the Web.com Tour Finals.
Having missed out of the magic top-125 in the FedEx standings last month by just five places, Power was forced to look elsewhere in a bid to earn his PGA Tour playing privileges for next season.
It was hardly a bad rookie year for the West Waterford man. Of 25 events played, he made 19 cuts and earned $646,180 dollars – more than enough reason to believe he belongs in such company.
Still, he’ll be frustrated with his final effort in Ohio. He slumped eight places to a tie for 17th after a difficult two over par 72 on the last day of the tournament. As an Olympian of vast experience spanning E-Tour money games to PGA Tour bliss, he would’ve expected better.
And yet such has been his consistency in the finals to date that he sits inside the projected top-25 in 19th position. He’s been there before, however, ousted at the last when his dreams looked to be fulfilled. All the more reason not to lift the foot from the pedal come Florida on Thursday.
He should be confident of securing a golden ticket to the big time at the Series Finale in Atlantic Beach for it’s nothing he hasn’t seen before.
It’s unfortunate that he finds himself in a do or die scenario once more having seemingly made it on so many occasions this year, but this isn’t a time to feel sorry for himself and you can be sure Seamus is focused on everything but.
