In a great day for Greystones Golf Club, Alan Condren captured the Irish Mid-Amateur Championship in style on Sunday with a seven stroke margin of victory at Clandeboye.
Leading by six heading into Sunday’s final round, the 2015 Leinster Mid-Am champion could afford a final round of 74 to finish well clear of Mark Duffy of Naas on five-under par for the championship.
Condren, who was part of the Greystones side that won the I Need Spain Irish Mixed Foursomes at Shandon Park in 2016 opened the championship with an impressive five-under par round of 66 and followed that with a 68 to give him a comfortable cushion coming into the final day.
With cold, wet and windy conditions prevailing at the Dufferin course, Condren handled the conditions well and ultimatley strolled to victory carding 14 birdies over the 54 hole tournament.
Duffy signed for a final round 75 to secure the runner-up spot while two former Irish internationals Robbie Cannon and Eddie McCormack shared third place on four-over par some 9 shots behind the winner.
