Olivia Mehaffey finally completed her second round at the weather delayed Australian Women’s Classic and she finds herself down the leaderboard after 36 holes in Bonville.

The Tandragee native eventually signed for a four-over 76 to drop back to one-over for the tournament having opened with a three-under 69 on Thursday which seems a long time ago now.

Mehaffey started well in picking up a birdie on the second hole ahead of dropped shots on the sixth and eighth before yesterdays deluge of rain brought play to a halt and saw her slip back to level-par for the tournament.

The 24-year-old returned to the course on Saturday morning and made the ideal start with a birdie on the ninth to turn in 35.

However, a dismal start to her back nine put paid to her chances of lifting a first LET title down under.

A bogey on eleven was followed by a double-bogey six on the 12th. Mehaffey rubbed salt into the wounds with further dropped shots on the 14th and 16th although she did stop the bleeding with a closing birdie to come home in a harrowing 41 strokes.

It leaves the Co. Down native in a share of 22nd place, eight shots adrift of England’s Meghan MacLaren who fired a two-under 70 to move to seven-under and lead by one.

Spain’s Carmen Alonso is in solo second on six-under after a 70 while Englishwoman Alice Hewson is a shot further back after a two-under 70 of her own.

Australian amateur Sarah Hammett leads the home challenge on three-under, also with the very popular score of 70 which is good enough for sixth place currently.
