A difficult second round saw Olivia Mehaffey miss the cut at the Trust Asian Mixed Stableford Challenge as she slid down the leaderboard on day two in Chonburi, Thailand.
The Tandragee woman had put herself in a good position after her opening round at Siam Country Club – which she returned on Thursday morning to complete – but would struggle on her second go round and would miss the cut by four points.
Mehaffey scored nine points under the modified stableford format – which awards points for scoring holes, rather than playing to-par, to encourage more aggressive play – in her first round but lost two points in her second to finish on seven overall.
That was four points off the cut mark, which fell at 11 points, and 21 points off leader Chanettee Wannasaen, who holds a three-point lead over Natipong Srithong and Kyongjun Moon at the top.
Mehaffey signed for six bogeys and two birdies in her second round, dropping shots on her opening two holes to put herself under pressure and she never recovered, reaching the turn after a birdie at the fourth but two more bogeys at the seventh and eighth.
Needing a big back nine, the former Arizona State star did pick up one more birdie at the 15th, but that followed bogeys at 11 and 13 leaving her adrift of the cut mark and continuing her up-and-down start to the season.
Meanwhile, Wannasaen had two eagles and three birdies on her way to a round of 15 points that moves her top of the standings with 28 points, the Thai three clear of the chasing pack.
Srithong had the best round of the day, two eagles and five birdies in a bogey-free outing that saw him pick up 20 points taking him into a share of second with 25 points alongside Moon, who picked up 15 points in his second round.
Korea’s Joohyung Kim is fourth on 24 points, with Indonesia’s Rory Hie rounding out the top-five with 23 points. Sweden’s Maja Stark and Thailand’s Jaravee Boonchant are the next best women in the field on 22 points.
