McKibbin sole Irish survivor of Limpopo Championship cut line

Tom McKibbin was the only Irishman to survive the cut line at the Limpopo Championship on the Challenge Tour on a rough second day for our local contingent in South Africa.
The Holywood teen was the only one to better the five-under mark, a two-under 70 at Euphoria Golf Club – the main course of the two on the rotation this week – moving him up to six-under-par for the week and into the weekend with only a shot to spare.

The 19-year-old found his scoring touch in Limpopo, five birdies an impressive return, however three bogeys to go along with it – including one on his final hole – leaves him eight shots off halfway leader Oliver Hundebøll, who won the recent Manguang Open.
He’ll just be happy to be in for the weekend, though, as the other three Irishmen in the field failed to make the cut, all of John Murphy, Paul Dunne and Richie O’Donovan missing out.

Greystones man Dunne was the most disappointing of the trio having started the day one shot off the lead, but a birdie-free six-over 78 in round two at Euphoria saw him finish at level-par, well off the required mark.

Kinsale’s Murphy will rue a disastrous stretch around the turn as he carded four bogeys in seven holes to leave himself too much to do, four birdies in the remainder of his round resulting in a level-par 72 at Euphoria and two-under-par for the week.
O’Donovan, meanwhile, was just playing for pride after a 79 in his opening round, and he would finish with a level-par 72 at Koro Creek, the second course, to finish the tournament seven-over.

At the top, Denmark’s Hundebøll opened up a one-shot lead as he carded a bogey-free nine-under 63 at the easier Koro Creek that featured nine birdies, the 22-year-old hitting 14-under-par going into the weekend.
