BoyleSports traders have reported that a huge gamble took place on Friday afternoon for Luke Donald to captain the European team for the Ryder Cup in 2023.
The 43-year-old Englishman and former world number one was the subject of some speculative bets being placed with his odds tumbling all the way into 11/8 from 18/1 in the betting.
The sudden burst of interest for the 2011 PGA Player of the Year has resulted in BoyleSports suspending the betting on who will captain Team Europe in 2023.
Lee Westwood was the red-hot 10/11 favourite prior to the big gamble on Luke Donald who was vice-captain to Padraig Harrington in September’s contest at Whistling Straits.
Sarah Kinsella, spokesperson for BoyleSports, said: “We were surprised to see that Luke Donald was the subject of a sustained gamble on Friday with his odds plummeting into 11/8 from 18/1 to be named the Ryder Cup captain in 2023 for Team Europe. We have now suspended betting and will await further news.”
