Eleven Irish hopefuls will take their chance over the next two weeks hoping to lock down some status on the Alps Tour in 2022.
With the continuing support of the Italian Golf Federation, the First Stage of the Alps Tour Qualifying School for the 2022 season takes place this week over two days and two rounds of 18 holes at three different venues in Italy.
Walker Cup teammates James Sugrue and Conor Purcell will hope to hit the ground running in search of starts next year with Portmarnock ace Purcell falling short of securing status at Korn Ferry Q-School last month.
With European Tour Q-School off the table this year, the pair will know the importance of this mission at Acaya Golf Club where they join a 70-man field hell-bent on guaranteeing playing opportunities next season.
Carton House amateur Darragh Flynn will also take his chance at Acaya alongside Cork’s John Hickey and Conor Coyne while Kilkenny’s Luke Donnelly, Michael Young and Rhys Clarke tee it up at Miglianico Golf and Country Club in Pescara.
Tramore’s Robin Dawson, Simon Bryan and another Carton House amateur, Marc Boucher are all exempt through final stage from November 10-12. 144 Final Stage entrants will take part with the top-35 to receive a full category on the tour for 2022. Roughly a third of the field from each Stage Two venue will advance to the final examination.
The weather looks promising with pleasant temperatures in Acaya, slightly cooler in Miglianico and a possibility of showers in Castel San Pietro Terme where no Irish take part.
The Alps Tour Qualifying School is open to male professionals belonging to a PGA or a recognised golf federation, and male amateurs with a maximum handicap of 2,0.
