Paula Grant, Annabel Wilson, Robin Dawson and Alex Gleeson are all in action this weekend at the South American Amateur Open.

Including the Irish team a total of 25 countries will tee it up for the 2018 edition. In the men’s category Alex Gleeson and Robin Dawson are tied for 10th just three shots off the lead as the pair carded opening rounds of 70 (-2) in Argentina.

Gleeson and Dawson both made four birdies and two bogeys in their opening round at Martindale Country Club where Argentina’s Alejandro Tosti and Scotland’s  Callum Fyfe carded five-under 67s to set the pace.
In the ladies event Annabel Wilson carded a 72 to claim a share of 11th place only 4 off the pace while Liburn’s Paula Grant posted a 76 to share 29th.
Wilson turned in one-under after starting on the back nine. The Lurgan amatear actually got to -3 with four holes to play after birdies at the first and second before dropping away from the leaders carding three bogies in her last four holes.
