Brendan McCarroll fired a second day 68 to claim a share of outright 4th with one round to play at the Evolve Pro Tour event at Lo Romero in Spain.
The Narin and Portnoo professional lies on seven under par, five shots behind 36-hole pacesetter, Daniel Brown from England.
McCarroll had opened the tournament with a fine 69 that included an eagle two at the par-4 11th and looked in great nick today as well. He took care of the par-5s on the front-nine with gains in four at both 2 and 6 before catching fire around the turn.
He eagled the par-5 10th before adding another birdie on 11 but just as he threated to get up ahead of steam and challenge for the lead he stumbled.
Successive bogeys at 12 and 13 look like being his undoing in terms of winning the championship, but a birdie three at the last would have rekindled those hopes ever so slightly heading into tomorrow. Great playing Brendan. Let’s hope for a big finish tomorrow.
