Two-time Major champion Angel Cabrera has been handed a two year jail sentence in Argentina after ‘El Pato’ was convicted on charges of domestic assault on Wednesday.

The former Master and US Open winner, nicknamed ‘El Pato’ for his waddling gait, was found guilty of assaulting an ex-girlfriend, Cecilia Torres Mana, also threatening and harassing her during their time together between 2016 and 2018.

The 51-year old Argentine denied the charges at his trial in Cordoba but will begin his sentence immediately having faced further allegations of assault from his ex-wife and another former partner.

“His situation is much more complex than this,” said prosecutor Laura Battistelli. “He has other charges for which there are arrest warrants too. There are other victims.”

Cabrera had been extradited from a Brazil prison last month to face the charges in his homeland. He has been in jail since January.
