Maynooth Scholars Meadhbh Doyle and Eleanor Metcalfe have finished third and fourth respectively at this year’s West of Scotland Trophy at Western Gailes.

Playing off a two handicap, Doyle fired rounds of 78, 76 and 77 across the three day tournament to claim a podium finish in outright third on 18-over-par. Doyle finished just one shot behind Scot, Kirsten Brown in second place, but a full eleven strokes behind runaway winner, Hazel MacGarvie, also from Scotland.

As for Metcalfe, she finished just one shot behind her Maynooth University teammate but will be disappointed having opened with rounds of 75 and 74 to end with a damaging final round 83 today.

Unfortunately Clodagh Walsh didn’t make the cut.

The results meant Maynooth finished in the silver medal position in the team event, albeit twelve shots behind victors, Stirling 1.

Still, given the weather, this was a fine result regardless for Maynooth considering the limited on-course practice time on offer for the team so far this year. With sprouts of spring finally in the air, hopefully the girls will kick on from here and build on a fine start.
