With the introduction in 2019 of the GUI All-Ireland Gold Medals, club golfers have once again been presented with a unique opportunity to participate at individual level in an all-Ireland GUI event.
Spread across three different handicap categories, the competition is open to all club members and entry is free for all affiliated golf clubs.
Last year Michael Joyce of Mulranny, Liam Mulveen from Athenry and Bellewstown’s Bernard Brannigan took home the gold medals at the inaugural final of the event.
This year, the leading 36 golfers qualified for the final based on the best nett scores returned in qualifying competitions at participating clubs in July and August.
This time around 30 clubs will be represented. Dromoland Golf Club have two members in the final, one of whom notched up 49 points in a club singles back in July.
Noel O’Connor qualified having returned a haul of 49 points in a club stableford competition, among the best nett scores recorded in Ireland this year. He played the course in just 75 strokes off a handicap of 16.
The final takes place on the Ryder Cup course, Palmer North at The K Club on Tuesday 6th October. Being played under strict Covid-19 regulations, the winners this year will receive their gold medals by post in the days after the event.
