The Bermuda Championship will become the latest hopeful host venue to permit spectators through its gates on the PGA Tour next month.

After the Jack Nicklaus hosted Memorial Tournament abandoned plans to permit up to 5,000 fans daily back in July, a limited number of supporters – yet to be specified – will be allowed into Port Royal Golf Club for the Oct. 29-Nov. 1 tournament.

The daily allowance will be determined by the island’s own Covid-19 protocols but the Tour will be hopeful given Bermuda’s glowing response to the virus when compared to other regular stops on the schedule.

Figures show that the Bermudian government has conducted 63,640 tests with only 181 identified positive cases, and their testing rates per capita are some of the best around.

“Being the first PGA Tour event to welcome spectators on-site is a milestone the Bermuda Championship is proud to have achieved,” said tournament director Sean Sovacool.

If successful, the admission of supporters would be the first time spectators have been able to line the ropes since the opening day of The Players Championship all the way back in March. It would be a stretch to say we’re missing outbursts of ‘MASHED POTATOES’ with our golf coverage since the restart but the eventual return of fans will be otherwise most-welcomed.
