Lee Westwood’s hosting of the Betfred British Masters will herald a return to the European Tour.
The €2m event is being moved forward and will now be held from July 23rd to 26th and opposite the 3M Open on the PGA Tour, with the following week to be the hosting of the WGC – FedEx St. Jude Invitational in Memphis.
As well, it is understood the British Masters will not be held at Close House, as it now appears on the Race to Dubai schedule, but will move to the Forest of Arden where there is a multi-room on-course hotel.
The Tour will also announce the hosting of three new €1m tournaments.
Two of the events, it is also understood, will take place at Celtic Manor in Wales and the third, in what will be a fourth straight tournament in the UK, will be staged at Hanbury Manor, a former European Tour host course also boasting a large on-course hotel.
It is for this very reason the courses have been chosen as their large hotels will help the Tour better monitor people attending the events.
And just like the PGA Tour, all four events will not allow spectator attendance.
Tee off in the British Masters will signal the end of what will be a 137-day lay-off since Spain’s Jorge Campillo beat Scot David Drysdale in a play-off on March 8th to win the Qatar Masters.
Furthermore, those who attained 2020 Tour membership will be fully exempt for the 2021 European Tour season while there will no end-of-season European Tour Q-School meaning no players progressing through from the secondary Challenge Tour.
