Steven Graham picked up where he left off last season with his form taking him all the way to the Spanish International Senior Amateur Championship title at Meliá Villaitana.

The East Sussex National affiliate player, who was a key figure in Ireland’s Senior Men’s Home Internationals side who narrowly lost out to England at Alnmouth last year, returned a cool, calm and collected one-under par round of 71 to close out the tournament in Alicante.

Graham, who poured it onto his rivals with rounds of 67 and 66 over the first two days, clocked a 12-under par 54-hole tally to beat his nearest rival, Spain’s Jacobo Cestino Castilla into second place by three strokes at the Benidorm venue.

Douglas’ Karl Bornemann, who partnered up with Graham in green to great effect last year, bookended his tournament with rounds of 69 to grab a top-5 finish at four-under par.

Peter Sheehan (+4), Bob Loftus (+5) and Patrick O’Brien (+6) all featured in the top-30 at the close of play in Alicante.
