Gavin Moynihan finds himself trailing just four strokes behind the lead as the Sunshine Tour’s Eye of Africa PGA Championship heads into moving day.

The Island product has shown plenty of form of late despite losing his European Tour card last season and returned rounds of 69 and 67 around the Eye of Africa Signature Golf Estate to move to eight under par, four behind South Africa’s Thriston Lawrence who heads the field on 12-under par.

Moynihan will hope to continue his form over the weekend rounds as he looks to work his way back towards the main European Tour this season.

The €125,000 event is nothing to be sniffed at, however, and with Moynihan expected to focus his efforts on the Challenge Tour this term, smaller prize pots will be something he’ll be forced to accept for now.

Invites will come, most certainly and one week is all it takes to change the direction of a golfer’s career but patience might prove key to a Moynihan revival as momentum builds ahead of the Challenge Tour season.
