Two time winner and in-form Rory McIlroy is the unbackable favourite at ridiculous odds of 4/1 across the market. Rors is not in contention to win the Race To Dubai and has his mate Niall O’Connor on the bag while Harry’s at home changing nappies so who knows how serious or otherwise he views this week after winning in China.

Doc’s Top 5 Each Way Bets

Bernd Wiesberger 28/1

Cream has a way of rising to the top in Dubai and you have to think that current R2D leader Bernd Wiesberger will be going full throttle to secure the title after a brilliant year. Winner in Denmark, in Scotland and Italy and ground out a superb T3 in the Nedbank last week with just 105 putts. Nobody deserves the win more than Bernd after an injury hit 2017; he has played 11 more European Tour events than Tommy Fleetwood in second and 16 more than Jon Rahm in third. Let’s hope his loyalty is rewarded.

Patrick Reed 18/1

Love him or loathe him you have to admire the way Pat Reed has gone about his business on both the PGA and European Tours this year. After being made an honorary life member of the European Tour in February (only the fourth American ever with Nicklaus, Watson and Palmer) Reed has played in Germany, Holland, England, China and Turkey in the latter part of the season along with his PGA Tour schedule.  omes in off five consecutive top-20 finishes and was T2 here in Dubai last year. A greens in regulation master, he’ll play the course his own way.

Matt Fitzpatrick 20/1

Yes I’ve tipped Matt a lot lately, and despite all his and our frustrations, I have to stick with him here. Another gutsy top-10 in South Africa last week saw him stay in the top-5 in the Race to Dubai with an outside chance of winning the wheelbarrow of cash. Runner up four times this season including in Italy but Matt Fitzpatrick knows what it takes to win this event after doing so in 2016. I think he’ll be right up there.

Matthias Schwab 33/1

The bookies have all their bases covered and its hard to find good each way value this week. Matthias Schwab makes his debut and his odds of 33/1 are enticing. Wisely took last week off after an epic run of six top-10 finishes dating back to the Czech Masters. T2 in Turkey last time out, zero pressure coming in; this could be the perfect scenario for one Austrian to steal another’s thunder!

Tyrrell Hatton 18/1

Confidence, confidence, confidence.  Take one fiercely competitive yet hugely frustrated golfer who battles as much with himself as the courses he plays. Take the monkey off his back and the chip off his shoulder with a big win in Turkey and now watch how he does this week.  Second here in 2016 and two other top-10’s in five Tour Championship starts, Tyrrell Hatton will be in contention here. Of that I, and the bookies, have no doubt.

Long Odds Glory Shots

Kurt Kitayama 50/1

Hits the ball a country mile off the tee and has been absolutely brilliant of late in Turkey, France and Italy. Making his debut here in Jumeirah Estates but 50/1 are great odds.

Tom Lewis 80/1

T7 on his debut here last year and watch out for Tom Lewis to come into a place this week.  Struggled to hit the fairways in Sun City but still managed a T13 to add to a solid formline since the Alfred Dunhill.
