The inaugural Graeme McDowell Invitational tees-off on Monday at the Greystone Golf & Country Club course in Birmingham, Alabama.

Nineteen university teams will compete over two days (36-holes Monday and 18-holes Tuesday) on the Founders course that also each year plays host for The Champions Tour’s Regions Tradition.

Among those teams is the University of Alabama (UAB) with McDowell a proud member of the team while in the university from 2000 to 2002.

The full list of university teams include:

UAB, North Florida, South Carolina, Arkansas State, Memphis, High Point, Chattanooga, Southern Illinois, Western Kentucky, Samford, Winthrop, Louisiana, Southern Miss, Lipscomb, Wofford, Nicholls State, UL Monroe, Troy, Jacksonville State.

McDowell will not be present at this first staging of the event given he is teeing-up in this week’s Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

He had to miss last week’s BMW PGA for ‘personal’ reasons and tees-up in Scotland having lost out in a play-off in the 2004 staging of the tournament.
