A dramatic late fightback from Ireland’s Men broke Danish hearts as the boys in green booked their place in tomorrow’s final of the Men’s Senior European Team Championship at Rungsted Golf Klub.

This week’s second seeds from the strokeplay have been in imperious form in the matchplay but were back on the ropes for a time today as Denmark raced to a 2-0 lead in their semi-final encounter.

A crucial 19th hole win for Castlemartyr’s John O’Brien proved the catalyst for change as momentum swung in Ireland’s direction as East Sussex National’s Steven Graham followed O’Brien in with a 2-hole win leaving the stage set for Greystones amateur, Alan Condren in the last match.

With the pressure on, Condren delivered, taking out his match 4&3 as Ireland booked their place in tomorrow afternoon’s final against England.

Meanwhile at BlackSeaRama Golf & Villas, England proved too strong for Ireland as they prevailed 3.5 – 1.5 in their semi-final encounter at the European Senior Ladies’ Team Championship.

Gertie McMullen and Maria O’Reilly halved the opening foursomes match before England burst into life, winning three matches on the spin, with Laura Webb’s 5&3 win in the last match helpless in preventing the English onslaught.
