The sweeping winds provided an acid test for eager competitors as the Irish Golfer Series stopped off in the Kingdom and the picturesque setting of Killarney Hotel, Golf & Fishing Club.

The track at Killarney stood up to conditions and with players’ feet firmly planted to the ground, categories proved as hotly contested as ever ahead of All-Ireland Final weekend.

Category One was a tight affair won with a humble but hard-fought 34 points by 3-handicapper, Colm Keating. The Kanturk golfer was in mighty form to defy the wind and he can now add a Taylormade M5 Driver to his readily working arsenal.

Ben Harte finished second with 33 points, pipping Jason Ryan to the M5 3-wood with Ryan consoled by a TaylorMade Hi-Toe wedge for third.

In the Ladies competition, there was a Harrington back in the winner’s enclosure – Rose Harrington to be precise after the Kinsale star took home a brand new Kalea Driver with her 32 point haul off 16.

Gents Category Two wasn’t such a close contest, however as 39 points off 13 defied all odds to romp home. Bobby O’Hara proved a very popular winner, overcoming the demons of Irish Golfer Events gone by to grace his golf bag with a new TaylorMade M6 Driver.

Denis O’Brien finished second on an admirable 35 points while Kevin Harris completed the podium places with 32.

The three category winners have all secured their places to the Grand Final at the K Club on Sunday October 27th.

Meanwhile the Gross Prize and a flash new Evnroll Putter was picked up by Shane Horgan with a battling 81.

With a sparkling Motocaddy S1 Digital Trolley up for grabs for Nearest the Pin on the par-3 10th, a stiff wind was no match for Charleville swinger, Paul Hackett’s trusty five-iron as seven feet took home the gold.

While last but not least, two big hits were saved for the 18th with Kinsale’s Orla Buckley taking out the ladies’ category while home player, Horgan flexed hardest amongst the men to double down on his prizes. Both players won a TaylorMade stand bag for their colossal efforts.

The next Irish Golfer Series event is at The K Club (Smurfit) on Friday September 6. As ever, spots are filling up fast. You can book now HERE
