Gary Hurley will look to make this week, the week as he seeks a step forward in his mission to rediscover some of the form that not too long ago made him one of Ireland’s most exciting amateur prospects.

Part of the 2015 GB&I Walker Cup team that included a record five Irishmen, including the likes of Paul Dunne, Gavin Moynihan and Cormac Sharvin, where those players have excelled in pro company, Hurley has really struggled.

Admitting that he felt lost in terms of the direction his game was headed, Hurley’s form has shown sprouts of life of late, not least when recording a minus-five 36-hole total at the Made in Denmark Challenge

As luck would have it, the halfway cut mark fell at a record low minus-six that week and after a fruitless trip to the ISPS Handa World Invitational, Hurley will hope to get back on track at this week’s 14th KPMG Trophy which moves to a new venue, Millenium Golf, located in Paal, Beringen, Belgium from Thursday.

Hurley will be joined by The Island’s Paul McBride and Portmarnock Links’ Robin Dawson who, like Hurley, failed to make the weekend cut at Galgorm Castle a fortnight ago.

Prior to that homecoming, Dawson looked to be establishing some consistency in his play as he picked up successive encouraging finishes of tied-11th in Finland and tied-18th in Denmark. Ranked 73rd on the money-list, the Tramore man will look to break inside the top-45 before the season’s out to ensure his place in the Grand Final.

Mount Juliet’s Stephen Grant completes this week’s Irish line-up.
