Tullamore is playing host to the Revive Active Fourball National Finals this weekend where Dun Laoghaire, Thurles, Kilrea and Galway Bay were this year’s semi-finalists.

Kilrea and Galway Bay started proceedings in glorious sunshine but in the shade of the first tee at Tullamore, Autumn was truly in the air.

While Fiona O’Driscoll and Sharon Rooney of Galway Bay clinched the first match on the 17th, by the time Rose Shaw and Mo Bradley-Travis secured their 2&1 victory over Katie Coleman and Eilisa Molloy, Kilrea had booked their place in the All-Ireland Final.

“The team played really well today,” gleamed Kilrea Team Captain Sandra Millar. “We had great fun, a great day and great competition played in great spirit.”

The Ulster Champions, who had a journey of nearly four hours to Tullamore this weekend in addition to previous journeys for practice rounds, have taken inspiration from a certain Paul McGinley whom some team members admire.

“Some of our girls would worship Paul McGinley, myself included.” Explained Millar. At the Ryder Cup last week he was talking about always having two balls in play, so that’s been our approach this weekend – especially on some holes here at Tullamore which have water hazards.”

The bottom half of the semi-final draw pitted Dun Laoghaire against Thurles, who last tasted All-Ireland success when they won the National Fourball title in 2010.

With two matches a piece, it was down to the last match which saw Dun Laoghaire’s Anne Marie Garth and Yvonne Hill face Mary Coman and Mairead Clohessy of Thurles. The Dun Laoghaire duo held a two hold advantage by time the match reached the challenging par 3 6th hole and held on –  despite an attempted come-back by Thurles – until the 17th where they finalised the match 2&1.

The Revive Active Fourball Final between Kilrea and Dun Laoghaire will take place today at 10.30am
