Ireland’s starting eleven this week at Stage II of European Tour Q-School have seen a mixed bag of results on day one across the various venues.
Desert Springs was an extremely unlucky place for Luke Donnelly who had to withdraw before play even got underway, having had a fall ahead of the first round which left him in A&E with an ankle injury. On the flip side Gary Hurley is best placed of the Irish after an opening round of 67 (-5) which sees him in T3 position.
Gavin Moynihan opened his account with a two under par round to sit in T17 place, while Jonathan Caldwell finished on +2 with Kevin Phelan one shot further back on +3.
Las Colinas wasn’t a happy hunting ground for the Irish on day one either as Ruaidhri McGee was best and he sits in T45 after a level par opener. Cameron Raymond endured a difficult day which finished with a triple bogey seven on the last for a four over par total and he is in 67th position.
Conor O’Rourke is the lone Irish contender at Alenda and he carded a level par round to be in T43 position after round one, while Cormac Sharvin returned a four under par round at El Encin to lead the Irish challenge in T14, with Robin Dawson on two under (T28) alongside Neil O’Briain.
In all approximately 18 players from each qualifier are expected to progress to Lumine Beach & Golf Community for the Final Stage which will take place from the 10-15 of November so the Irish guys have plenty to think about tonight and hopefully they come back fighting again tomorrow.
