Irish punters are weighing in on more success for Rory McIlroy as he chases down Scottie Scheffler in the betting for this week’s Genesis Invitational in California.
Tiger Woods has shelved plans to return to competitive action this week but a star-studded line-up remains for the third signature event of the PGA Tour season, which has been relocated to Torrey Pines in San Diego from its regular home of The Riviera Country Club due to damage caused by the recent wildfires near Los Angeles.
BoyleSports has chalked Scheffler up as 7/2 favourite for the event, but the market momentum is with McIlroy (13/2 from 7/1) as he returns to the course in winning form following his victory at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
As the four-time major winner lifted his first trophy of the year, Shane Lowry made it an Irish 1-2 on the West Coast and the Offaly native is also a popular each-way choice at 28/1 to challenge again as he seeks his first win on tour since teaming up with McIlroy to win last year’s Zurich Classic of New Orleans.
It’s a different assignment in store this week for tour exile Tom McKibbin, who bids to build on a solid LIV Golf debut in Riyadh as a 33/1 shot (from 40/1) to top the leaderboard in Adelaide, with Jon Rahm (6/1) and Tyrell Hatton (15/2) rated favourites for the eye-watering cheque.
