It took two extra holes in a playoff but Galway’s Joe Lyons finally emerged victorious at the Muster Strokeplay over Eanna Griffin (Waterford).

Lyons, who had led Griffin by seven shots heading to the final round returned a 77 to Griffin’s 70, leaving both players tied on 288 with Keith Egan (Carton House) one shot adrift on 289 and defending champion Alan Fahy (Dun Laoghaire) on 290.

And so it was a sudden-death playoff with both Griffin and Lyons parring the 1st before moving to the 17th where par was enough for Lyons to win after Griffin missed a 7 footer for his par.
