Beth Coulter and Aine Donegan both had days to forget as they ended the opening day of the Patsy Hankins Trophy without a point.

Coulter and Donegan, representing Europe, both lost their foursomes and fourballs match at Al Hamra Golf Club on what was a poor effort from the continent who trail Asia-Pacific 7-3 heading into day two.

In a resumption of their Curtis Cup partnership, Coulter and Donegan went down 4&3 to Mamika Shinchi and Aira Nagasawa in the second foursomes match of the morning.

The pair who have been regularly paired together for Ireland and at the Vagliano Trophy were split up for the afternoon four balls but to no joy.

Coulter went down 2&1 in the top match alongside Marie Madsen while Donegan and Patience Rhodes were beaten 4&3.
