Sara Byrne and Lauren Walsh have it all to do after slow starts to the Final Stage of LPGA Tour Q-School as some big names also began sluggishly.

Byrne opened her account with a one-over 73 as a good start was overshadowed by a poor finish while Walsh is three-over-par after a horror start left her under pressure early on.

Both players still have plenty of time to recover with Thursday being the first of five rounds in Alabama at Magnolia Grove.

Byrne played her opening round at the Crossings Course and after a bogey at the first she rallied with back to back birdies and a third birdie of the day on the ninth.

However, the 23-year-old Dromoland Castle star encountered some problems on the back nine dropping shots at the par-5 13th, 17th and 18th.

Walsh might be feeling positive about her round of 74 after she avoided a disaster following four bogeys in her first eight holes.

Walsh rallied with birdies on 13 and 16 either side of a bogey on 15 to keep her hopes alive.

The top-25 after 90 holes will secure LPGA Tour cards with the current mark set at two-under-par.

Yu Liu leads the way on nine-under after a 62 but some big names in the form of former major winner Sophia Popov and Solheim Cup star Bronte Law struggled.
