Seamus Power’s recovery from a back injury will be aided by the fact he secured spots in two PGA Tour Signature Events in 2025 as the FedEx Cup Fall series ended at the RSM Classic.
Power was forced to withdraw during his second round but his position in the Genesis Invitational and AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am was rarely in doubt over the weekend.
The Waterford man dropped just one spot from 55th to 56th in the FedEx Cup Fall rankings with those positioned between 51-60 eligible for two Signature Events next year.
Power performed well during the FedEx Cup Fall events as he looked to be edging back to some consistent form after a hip injury plagued him for twelve months.
The two-time PGA Tour winner has been ranked outside the top-100 in the world for most of the year but he strung together some good performances in September with a top-10 at the FedEx St Jude Championship followed by two T11 finishes a T13 and T23.
“It was a strange season because I’ve made improvements in areas of my game that I wanted to make improvements, but then like typical golf stuff, the stuff like my strengths before kind of went a little backwards. Ended up with positive stats across the board, but no real like highlight stuff,” Power explained.
“It was weird, like the start of the year — I didn’t play in the Playoffs last year so I was rusty early and didn’t get going with the putter. I felt like I lost a bit of confidence in the putter and that’s been my strength really on Tour, so that was slow coming out of the gates.
“I played very nicely from like the middle of the summer onwards. I still haven’t had those high finishes which has been a little disappointing. It’s been very — especially in the fall it’s been very consistent, a lot of good stuff, but not really those great weeks which can really turn your season around.”
The 37-year-old looked in danger of being on the outside looking in at the start of 2025 but guaranteeing his spot in two Signature Events will give him an opportunity to climb back up the world rankings and get back to the level he was at in 2022 as he looks to put eighteen months of health issues behind him.
“Two goals for the fall was try to win an event and to lock up that Top 60. It’s such a big deal and we saw that this year, the numbers really played out you need to be in at least some of those elevated events.
“It really kept me like very motivated in the fall, so it’s been fun kind of chasing obviously and being able to pick up some points.”
