BoyleSports has reported that Rory McIlroy has been gambled into 7/2 (from 5/1) to sign off his season with a third career success in the DP World Tour Championship.
The Holywood native has all but secured a sixth Race to Dubai and will tee it up at the Jumeirah Golf Estates Earth Course as the only course winner in the 50 strong field.
The only contender that can catch McIlroy in the seasonal rankings is South Africa’s Thriston Lawrence who is rated a 25/1 shot to lift the trophy in the UAE, but even with a first-place finish in this week’s event, he would have to rely on McIlroy finishing outside the top 11.
An emotionally testing 12 months for McIlroy has seen him come close to winning the Dubai Invitational, US Open, Irish Open and BMW Championship and bettors looking for added insurance for a win in Dubai are playing the world number 3 in the BoyleSports Early Payout Market.
The market sees punters paid out as a winner if their golfer is the sole leader after 54 holes, whether they go on to win the event or not, with McIlroy available at odds of 16/5.
Tyrell Hatton rates amongst McIlroy’s main rivals for victory this week according to the oddsmakers at 11/2 after his second-place finish in last week’s Abu Dhabi Championship, while Shane Lowry who finished six off the lead after a late flurry of bogeys can be backed at 14/1.
Brian O’Keeffe, spokesperson for BoyleSports, said: “It’s been a testing year for Rory McIlroy, but with the Race to Dubai at his mercy and his fine record in the season finale, punters have given him a strong vote to sign off on a high.”
