Damian Mooney finished birdie, par, birdie, eagle to win the Flogas Pro-Am on a wet and blustery afternoon at Knightsbrook Hotel Spa & Golf Resort.

Mooney’s superb late salvo saw him sign for a five-under par 67, good enough to finish one shot ahead of Simon Thornton (Tulfarris Golf Resort) and Damien McGrane (Carlow GC).

With a shotgun start in operation, Mooney (Damian Mooney Golf) started his round at the par-four 14th with a solid par. The 51-year-old played his opening nine holes in one-under par with birdies at the 17th and fourth cancelled out by a dropped shot at the par-3 third.

His second bogey of the round followed at the fifth, but an immediate bounce back birdie at the par-5 sixth set him up for a run of three pars that was then polished off in style with that final closing flourish.

Neil O’Briain (Old Conna GC) and amateurs Connor Kelly, Jim Potter and Shaun Potter won the team prize with 89 points, edging out Mooney and team courtesy of a better back nine.
