Colm Moriarty fired a near flawless five-under-par round of 66 to claim the Brightwater Recruitment Roganstown Pro-Am by a single stroke on Monday.
The Glasson professional fired six birdies in glorious golfing conditions, with just the one dropped shot coming at the treacherous 6th hole, to pip Michael McGeady by one shot to win the title.
He took care of the par-5s at four and five with birdie fours and added three more before coming to his final hole in the shotgun start, the par-3 2nd.
The experienced campaigner had to dig deep for a precious two to secure the victory, with the performance a continuation of some sound early season form for Moriarty.
Speaking to Irish Golfer post-round, Colm was delighted to pick up a confidence boosting win on the region as the circuit kicks into gear ahead of the summer months.
“Delighted to get the win and keep the good form going,” said the victor. “It was a beautiful day up there, not a breath of wind and the course was in great shape. It’s always an enjoyable event for us. It’s a great resort to visit, they’re very welcoming and always look after us so well.
“I dropped one shot on the 6th which I think is probably one of the hardest holes on the course but to make six birdies was a good return.”
And how satisfying was it knowing that it was his birdie at his final hole that sealed the deal?
“Yeah, I finished on the 2nd, the par-3 and it was really nice to birdie it, which was ultimately enough to get me the win. But I’m just happy with my early season form and it was great to get the W.”
