Lauren Walsh played just one match on day one of the 42nd Curtis Cup as USA stormed into a 5-1 lead over Great Britain and Ireland at Merion.
The Stars and Stripes edged in front after a closely contested fourball session, taking a 2-1 lead into the afternoon foursomes where they completed a clean sweep to surge four points in front.
Walsh played alongside Caley McGinty in the morning fourballs but neither had their best stuff as they fell to a comprehensive 3&2 defeat to Amari Avery and Megha Ganne as USA registered the first point of the competition.
Hannah Darling and Annabell Fuller were unlucky to come out on the wrong side of a topsy turvy match with Rachel Heck and Rachel Kuehn as they lost 1UP. Darling passed up a good opportunity to level affairs on the 16th as her birdie putt slipped by and a par on the difficult 18th was enough to put USA 2-0 up.
GB&I needed to win the final match to carry some hope into the afternoon alternate shot and avoid a whitewash and Scotland’s Louise Duncan and Charlotte Heath delivered with a 2&1 win over world number one Rose Zhang and Emilia Migliaccio.
Unfortunately for the visitors, they were battered in the afternoon foursomes with none of the three matches going past the 16th.
Scottish duo Hannah Darling and Louise Duncan were hammered 5&3 by fresh pairing Jensen Castle and Latanna Stone.
Caley McGinty and Emily Price were beaten 3&2 by Kuehn and Avery while Charlotte Heath and Amelia Williamson were swatted away by a resurgent Zhang and Heck going down 4&2.
