Julie McCarthy has been on a rich vein of form recently with the Auburn sophomore getting her first collegiate victory earlier this month, being selected for the Palmer Cup and she has now also been added to the ANNIKA Award watch list

This week McCarthy was selected as one of 15 golfers to make the cut for the latest ANNIKA Award Watch List. The award, named after golfing legend Annika Sorenstam, honours the Most Outstanding Female Collegiate Golfer of the year as voted on by peers, coaches and golf media.

McCarthy is currently ranked No. 6 nationally per Golfstat and finished the regular season with her first individual win at the Clemson Invitational where she shot a career-low 66 (-6) in the first round and followed that with a 70 (-2) in round two to finish the tournament at 8 under. She also earned SEC Women’s Golfer of the Week honors following her performance.

But it’s not just recent form that McCarthy has shown and in fact she has six top-five finishes in the season and has shot par or better in 14 of her 25 rounds, including five rounds under 70.

The final ANNIKA Award Watch List will be cut to 10 golfers and will be announced next month after the NCAA Regionals have been completed. The winner of the 2019 ANNIKA Award will be announced June 4 during Golf Central on the Golf Channel.

The next chance for McCarthy and her Auburn teammates to impress will be when they look to defend their home turf at the NCAA Auburn Regional, held at Saugahatchee Country Club from May 6-8.
