Olivia Mehaffey will make her way to the inaugural Augusta National Women’s Amateur this week with her game in fine shape after claiming outright sixth spot at the PING/ASU Invitational.

Having equalled her career best low round of 65 to burst into contention on Saturday, the world amateur number 20 posted a low-key even par 72 to close out the tournament. Mehaffey fired an eagle and a solitary birdie but also three dropped shots to finish on five-under par, just two shots off the lead. The Banbridge star’s play helped the No. 16 Sun Devil women to another solid collective finish as they returned a runner-up score of four-under par. Mehaffey can now turn her attention to this week’s historic 54-hole stroke play competition on April 3-6 where amateur women will get the chance to compete amongst the azaleas of Augusta National for the final round.

The field will play the first 36-holes of the Championship at the Champions Retreat Golf Club before entering Augusta National for an official practice round Friday, April 5.

A 36-hole cut to the top-30 players will then finish the tournament on the famous hallowed ground of Augusta on April 6, the Saturday before the Masters, and with the way Mehaffey’s game is trending, we wouldn’t put it past her to feature heavily come Saturday’s final round.
