Ronan Mullarney made light work of the Laytown and Bettystown Senior Scratch Cup field as he marched to an impressive five-shot victory.

The strong winds and chilly conditions didn’t impact the scoring too much in what turned out to be a very successful Senior Scratch Cup, kindly sponsored by PGA Professional, Scott Kirkpatrick.

The Galway swinger followed up a steady one-under par 70 with an imperious five-under par 66 in the afternoon to signal that his game is on song ahead of next week’s West of Ireland amateur in Sligo.

Mullarney topped the 66 strong field at six-under par, five clear of home favourite, Alex Maguire (72/69), with Wales’ Jake Hapgood back in third on even par.
