Early success for Dubliner in Race to Quinta do Lago

Congratulations to Peter Early (Royal Dublin) who saw off some stiff competition to claim the Clubs to Hire’s Race to Quinta do Lago in association with Irish Golfer Magazine.

Peter Early / Race to Quinta do Lago Grand Final Winner
Dubliner Early saw off the challenge of 23 other golfers from across Europe to emerge victorious in inaugural Clubs to Hire’s Race to Quinta do Lago.

The competition – in association with Irish Golfer Magazine, Quinta do Lago and retailer American Golf – was open to all golfers who held an official and regulated golfing union (or similar) handicap who entered the competition and had to reduce their handicap by 10 percent before the end of September to be t=entered into a draw to win a place at the Grand Final.

The 24 grand finalists – from five different countries – enjoyed a complimentary stay at the prestigious Portuguese resort, golf at Laranjal, a prize giving dinner at the superb Bovino restaurant at Quinta do Lago and club rental from Clubs to Hire.

The 53-year-old, who works for Aer Lingus, said: “This event was an inspiration for me to try to reduce my handicap. I started the year at 4.0 and managed to get my handicap down to 2.6. Even on days where I was not playing well and heading for a point one back, the thought of a trip to Quinta do Lago was very appealing and kept me focused. I look forward to competing again in 2019.”

Clubs to Hire co-founder, Tony Judge, said: “The event was a great success and we were able to witness some very good golf. It was heartening to hear the really positive comments from the finalists who clearly really enjoyed the experience – and the opportunity to play on a world-renowned golf course.”

IGM’s John Shortt commented: “We were delighted to get involved with this initiative and to see the level of interest from Ireland that we did was incredible, not to mention all the other European Countries that were represented in the entries and at the final.  The event was aimed at golfers who were keen to reduce their handicap and improve their overall game and we’re looking forward to being involved with it again in 2019.
