The Leinster Boys U16 Amateur Close Championship at Ashbourne Golf Club was a tight affair with Naas Golf Club’s Eoin Freeman winning out on a countback.

The event, sponsored by Titleist Footjoy Ireland ended in a three-way tie on 71 (+1) between Freeman, Lucas Kane (Mullingar) and Michael Fitzgibbon (Portmarnock) but on a countback Freeman took the title courtesy of his 35 strokes on the back nine which included two birdies and a bogey in his last three holes.
